Oh geez I had such a good post about this before the internet went down and erased it - something about the dead-end rust-belt/inevitable slow decline of american cities…. damn it.  This movie is funny and I liked it.

My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) - IMDb →

I don’t know why this is one of the very few rom-coms I’ve seen multiple times. Only once recently, but still. Maybe I can just identify with the epic losing that goes on.

I hate the lying, I hate fairy tale weddings, and I hate the way Cameron’s character dresses in this. Also I think Julia’s character should get smart and wait a few years.

I watched this because of nostalgia for back when it was playing on comedy central twice a day.
spoiler alert: the exchange student is definitely some kind of a spy, although the movie doesn’t ever get around to addressing it.

I generally like action to be on the ground with at most a few airborne trucks or some falling off tall buildings.  But this was more enjoyable than I expected an airplane based movie to be.
Also the guard/hostage is Rachel Ticotin, aka Melina from (original) Total Recall!

Saw this awhile ago but I don’t think I posted it.  This is a very good movie, I’d totally see it again.  Time travel is an endless treasure trove for story telling and interesting things.

I love this.  It’s way better than that other movie named Chocolat.

This is not a nuanced take on future technologies that make all of us into robots, no, its decidedly anti.  But the film makers ruined their own argument by showing the robots doing super cool car/building leaping that no human could ever do.  Anyone would have pro robot sympathies after seeing that.

Even Tommy??

Tom is far too much a human chauvinist to be moved by the obvious advantages of robots.

Anyone would have pro-robot sympathies after seeing the cool leaps and stuff they can do in this.  But other than that this is a pretty intense piece of propaganda against humans living their lives through remotely controlled robots.  I am personally ambivalent.

God the saxophone was brilliant.  That’s what I want in my life background.  I really liked this movie.  I can’t believe I hadn’t seen the whole thing until last weekend - take me back in time to change the mistakes of the past.

Father and son destroy as much of Russia as possible and barely anyone notices.  I just bet the next Diehard is going to be starring junior.  You can’t phase out Bruce Willis on my watch god damn it!
